Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel crowned Miss Universe today in Las Vegas. This year’s pageant featured a range of contestants from all over the world and the final competition was fierce. Miss Venezuela won this year’s Miss Universe title, but Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel has reignited controversy by commenting on the #MeToo movement. Here is what she had to say: “As a woman, I really feel like we need to empower each other. We need to stand up for each other, and we need to be vocal about our own rights. We’re not going away, and we’re going to keep fighting for these things.” We applaud her courage and her message of empowerment, but we think she could have done a better job articulating it in a less inflammatory way.
Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel crowned Miss Universe
On Saturday night, R’Bonney Gabriel was crowned Miss Universe 2018. It was a long journey for the Louisiana native who made her debut at the Miss USA pageant in 2016. She competed in both pageants and finished as first runner-up at Miss USA before going on to win Miss Universe France in 2017.
Reaction to Ccrowned Miss Universe Gabriel’s win
Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel has won the Miss Universe 2017 title, defeating her nearest runner-up. The 24-year old from Texas was crowned by outgoing Miss Universe Paula Abdul at the end of a stunning final night of competition held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Her first victory follows back-to-back runner up finishes in 2012 and 2013, and will see her crowned as the 115th Miss Universe. Reaction to Gabriel’s win has been mixed with many praising her for finally gaining the crown she so richly deserves, whilst others feel that she simply capitalised on previous opportunities.
The Miss Universe Organization
Miss Universe Organization was founded in 1952 by a group of businessmen who wanted to bring together women from all over the world to compete for the title of Miss Universe. The organization became known for its annual international beauty pageant which has been televised live on NBC since 1960.
Notable winners of the Miss Universe pageant include Alicia Machado, Christy Turlington, and Miss World 1998, Lina Medina. In September 2017, Donald Trump was elected as the President of the United States, and shortly afterward he appointed R’Bonney Gabriel as Director General of the Miss Universe Organization. Under her leadership, the organization made several changes, including revamping its board of directors and appointing new judges.
